Take two of the Starcraft II Champions Trophy is scheduled for Saturday, 20 November, has 250 Dollars in cash and two Killer 2100 thanks to Bigfoot networks. This time, we want to score even higher-by doubling the prize money and setting up an English live-stream, to name a few improvements that we've worked on recently. We doubt that any of you are getting bored with SCII as of yet, because the game is simply frigin awesome, and the fact that there is like a fucktrillion maps and mods for it. Not to mention that there will be some Blizzard made maps and gamemodes released over the coming months. Probably not 65 k but still a good amount, Blizz has some extensions to do. The Starcraft 2 tips I am going to share with you is a basic introduction to Mutalisk and how professional Starcraft 2 gamers use this unit to its best potential.

However the Mutalisks being light armored are very weak to attacks. However they are a good unit to use to maintain map control since their speed is good and they are flying unit.

How do we use these Mutalisk like a pro?
Some simple Starcaft 2 tips of using them are:

Once you have them, keep the harassment to the max
This Starcraft 2 tip is once you got your first fleet of Mutalisks out fly over to harass opponent mineral lines, kill of unprotected buildings in simple terms do some damage to your opponent. The trick is to move your Mutalisks to a spot and let them spread out slowly themselves. With the spread out formation fly over Thor (not attacking it) and hold them right above the Thor. The Starcraft 2 tips I am going to share with you is a basic introduction to Infestor and how professional Starcraft 2 gamers use this unit to its best potential.

Introduction to Infestor

Requires: Infestation Pit
Producer: Larva
Cost: 100 mineral 150 gas 2 food 50 seconds
Type: Armored- Biological
Speed: 2.5
Class: Ground
Hitpoints: 90
Armor: 0
Energy: 200

Ability
Fungal Growth (Ensnares all enemy units in a small radius. This ability deals 36 damage and immobilize the enemy over 8 seconds. Fungal Growth also reveals Clocked and Burrowed units.)
Neural Parasite (Temporarily takes control of an enemy unit. While controlling an enemy unit, the Infestor cannot take any other actions.)
Spawn Infested Terran (Spawn an Infested Terran that lasts 30 seconds but move very slowly)
Burrow
*Note that Infestor can automatically move while Burrowed.

Ground Carapace (Increase armor by 1)

So what are Infestors good against?
They are generally fairly good against all other units with proper micro. Infestors do great against massive ground army by using Fungal Growth and runs away. Infestors also do great against air units by Fungal Growth and not allowing them to run away when bringing anti air units to deal with them. They also do great against army with powerful units by Neural Parasite and controlling the powerful units in enemies' army.

How do we use these Infestors like a pro?
Some simple Starcaft 2 tips of using them are:

Always put 2-3 Infestors in any army composition
This Starcraft 2 tip is always mixing a few Infestors in your army. Infestors can almost compliment any units you can have. A few Fungal Growths in a battle can really make a big difference, or when overpowered by a larger force a few Infested Terrans can also help.

Use them to kill an expansion
This Starcraft 2 tip is how to use 3-4 Infestors and disrupt or kill an expansion.
There are 2 cases. The 1st case is when you know your opponent is in no position to come and defend their expansion. What you can do is still burrowed spawn as many Infested Terran as possible around the expansion, try to kill the harvesters first then kill the building. 2nd case is when you know your opponent can come back in time to defend the expansion. Go to their mineral lines burrowed and cast fungal growth on all their harvesters. Do that 2 times and you should be able to kill all harvesters at the expansion.

Have as many Infestors as opponent Tier 3 units
In this Starcraft 2 tip, the trick is to get as many Infestors as enemy's tier 3 units. When engaged, from behind cast a few fungal growth to stop all the lower tier units in front and then Neural Parasite the tier 3 units. With the support of your own army, you should be able to win the battle with ease.

They are generally fairly good against early solo air unit rush like the Voidray. Queen is not an offensive unit to start with so the Queen is generally weak when fighting another unit solo. However the Queen being a superb support unit with Transfusion, mass Queens with constant transfusions to each other is a force to be recon with.
How do we use these Queens like a pro?

Mass queens for early air rushes.
This Starcraft 2 tip is when you know your opponent is going into a fast Voidray, Pheonix, Mutalisk or Banshee rush, start massing up Queens to counter them as 4-5 Queens can easily end an early air harass with some micro and Transfusions to each other.
Use them to make your Spine/Spore Crawler last longer.

The actual gaming tournaments took place in one enormous exhibition hall, and included games such as Halo, Super Smash Brothers, Tekken, Starcraft 2, and Guess How Many Girls Are Here. Aside from the gaming consoles and PCs for the actual tournaments, there were also sponsors riddled throughout. They had girls giving away free Dr. Peppers at one booth and free Doritos at another. (And I haven’t even gotten to the Hot Pocket girls.) (Not a joke.)

The MLG Starcraft 2 Tournament

I missed the first day of the tournament, which is okay because that’s when all the awful players got eliminated. The tournament was in double-elimination format with a loser’s bracket and an extended series rule for rematches, which basically means that nobody had a freaking clue what was going on.

The players played in a roped-off competition area, while their games were streamed onto an enormous hanging screen in front of the spectators area. The spectators area had six little bleachers; around 500 people showed up for the final games, meaning that everyone sat on the floor.

The crowd oohed and ahhed, cheering for creative plays such as hiding critical buildings, dropping troops behind enemy lines, or harassing the opponent’s economy. (People in DC love harassing the economy.) When players wandered out of the play area to watch the other matches, fans lined up for photos and autographs.

The Results

The top three players were Huk, Select, and IdrA. Huk, who chooses Protoss as his specialty, stomped through his competition until the 2nd/3rd place match. The crowd got so excited about Huk’s strategy (his famously crazy, all-in Mothership rush) that both players could hear the noise over their headphones. Huk then pretty much gave everything away, saying “I cant go mothership now; youll hear when it comes out.” Then he did it anyway.

Of course, the crowd went NUTS once the mothership finished, which basically gave it away to Huk’s opponent, Select. Huk then did a cover-up job any DC politican would be proud of: “That’s Halo; don’t worry. O_O” With the crowd effectively giving away Huk’s strategy, he was easily countered and finished in 3rd.

Select lost once early on, but was able to battle through the Loser’s bracket all the way to the end. This is pretty much insane, because he had to play twice as many games as the other finals contender. He played a total of 12 best-of-3 matches. The officials delayed one match just so he could eat something, which is apparently a physical need among human beings.

He beat almost every best player of the tournament by doing the exact same thing every game: opening with infantry, transitioning into dropships, using them to attack from multiple angles at once, and sniping key enemy units like Collosi or Nexuses. All of his bitter foes whined afterward about how using one strategy wouldn’t get him very far; the Starcraft 2 community refers to this as “nerd rage.”

IdrA, who moved to south Korea during Starcraft 1's hayday to join a professional team, flew back to show who’s boss. That flight ain’t cheap, so he was probably eying the $2500 prize.

IdrA considers his race of choice, Zerg, to be extremely underpowered–especially against Terran players. When IdrA loses to Terrans, he rages hard, producing little gems like the following:

Unfortunately, IdrA never lost, which means no quotes were added to his collection. He played Select in the finals, and while Select annihilated Protoss, he sucked fairly hard against a good Zerg player. IdrA defeated Select 2-0, winning MLG DC and, yes, my heart.

StarCraft AI competition results

AIIDE 2010 StarCraft AI competition has come to an end. The challenge to competitors was to build the best results bot for an extremely popular, commercial games. The contest consisted of four tournaments of varying complexity. This was the first year of the contest was held and it proved a success. Although no prices offered, was attended by twenty-eight teams in the tournament. My presentation at the tournament gives an overview of the participants and results.

Showcase game of the tournament was a bot to human match.In the exhibition match, = DoGo =, World Cyber Games played against the 2001 competitor ranking bot contest. result was an exciting man versus machine match highlights the level of development of real time strategy game AI.

While the expert player could beat up performs robots in the contest, the results are quite encouraging. read the complete results.

Tournament 1: retail management
The first tournament evaluates robots in unit micromanagement scenarios; The winner of this tournament was FreSCBot, using multi agent finite-Tillståndsdatorerna. Tournament 2: Small-Scale Combat

Tournament 3: Tech-Limited Game
Third race tested robots in a tech-limited StarCraft environment that requires thinking on strategic and tactical level, but omits much of the complexity of the full version of StarCraft.The winner of this tournament was to emulate the bot, as an attempt to reflect the opponent's strategy, while also performing a gas stealing and implement fallback strategies.Runner up was Botnik, which executes a Zealot rush strategy; Complete tournament information can be found here and the full results will be posted here; video below shows the final match between MimicBot (red) and Botnik (teal).

Tournament 4: Full Gameplay
Last race was the best of five, double polychlorinated biphenyls tournament simulates a professional gaming competition.The winner of this tournament was the Zerg Overmind, a robot that effectively scouted opponents, interrupted its economy and Mutalisk harassment victory was carried out safely.Runner-up was Krasi0, a terran bot with excellent defending and driver features complete tournament information can be found here and the full results will be posted here; video below shows an exert from one of the games between the Overmind (yellow) and Krasi0 (Brown).

Highlight # 1: Krasi0 versus SkyNet
During this 1 minute between bots Krasi0 and SkyNet was difficult to distinguish whether the game was played by qualified human players or StarCraft corresponding Deep Blue.

Highlight # 2: Berkeley's Mutalisk Evolution

Big Blizzard always watch! Earlier this week, reported cheat hands one of its users were banned in StarCraft 2 after using trainers in single player.Blizzard had evidently benefited their account for 14 days under the ' exploitative activities. "The idea is that although these trainers are used in the single player and against AI opponents, the effects of earn achievements modifies a players online persona, responded to the perceived Blizzard rep via an alleged e-mail.

We contacted Blizzard us for a little clarification on the issue and received an explanation, which you can read past the break.

Starcraft 1.5, or Starcraft 2?

There's been a lot of weary forum users making the claim that Starcraft 2 is really just Starcraft 1.5. This will be the topic of this article. I'll start out by listing all the new changes for Starcraft 2 and Battle.net 2.0.

Terran Macro Mechanics

The Terran has a unique macro mechanic that is used after upgrading the Command Center to an Orbital Command center. What it does is collect 30 minerals every load, but takes about 3 times longer than an SCV per load. Basically that would mean it independently collects about twice as fast as an SCV does.

The downside to using the MULE however is that a player must sacrifice the usage of a scanner sweep; both abilities take your Orbital Command's Energy. This has been the cause of some lost games. Terran players must be careful not to get greedy.

Now we'll take a look at the Protoss.

Protoss Macro Mechanics

The Protoss have an ability called Chronos that is available directly from the Nexus. It costs 25 energy, and speed up any building production by 30% for a period of time. This is an extremely powerful macro mechanic because it can be used to build fast probes in the early game, it can be used to get a Zealot harassing very early game, or it can be used to get some very fast upgrades.

The only downside to the Protoss macro mechanic is what you don't use it on. If you decide to pump out a heavy amount of units, your economy will most likely fall behind your competition's economy. It could put you in a position to make a push but if the push fails you'll probably be in trouble.

Now my personal favorite: the Zerg.

Zerg Macro Mechanics

If you compared the new Zerg macro mechanic to the other Macro mechanics, I think you'd find that there's less room for debate on which Queen option is the most effective. The Queen has three macro abilities: Spawn Creep Tumor, which extends creep radius in a spiral outward from the tumor. This can be used to connect bases or perhaps for scouting. One of the most important upsides to this is creep allows vision, and faster movement for your units.

The other ability is to restore a units health or a building's health. This can be used on defensive structures. I think the downside to this though is that any mediocre skilled player will attack the Queen relatively quickly. And to save the best for last, the Queen also has spawn larvae. I am one of those millions of original fans who has played the sequel regularly since its debut. I still fondly remember the online StarCraft games I played with a small circle of friends; and I’m looking forward to renewing those ties via StarCraft II, now that many of those friends have grown up and started their families. None of those old friends have as much time to play as they used to. I’m in the same boat there. But StarCraft II is one of the few games I will lose sleep over.

On Metacritic, a review aggregator, StarCraft II has scored 93 out of 100. That means universal acclaim. It is so good that the game will likely single-handedly revive the sales of PC games, which have been losing out to both console games and social games on the web. You buy new weapons in the armory with points you earn with each new battle. You can fulfill missions by invading planets, but you can choose which planets you will assail first. The battles are fun because the forces of each side are so well-balanced. You have to balance the tasks of mining resources, protecting your base, expanding your base to find new resources, and then taking the offensive when you are strong enough to take the enemy down. The Terran, Zerg, and Protoss enemies are also very well-balanced, much like the old “rock, paper scissors game.” For every effective weapon or vehicle, there is a counterpart that can take it down.

Each new mission is accompanied by a cinematic animated film that advances the storyline. These animations are as good as any I’ve seen depicting human characters and their faces; they’re easily as good as the animations in the final Fantasy games made by Square Enix. One example of the depth: Blizzard used 58 voice actors to act out the dialogue in the game.

The emotional intensity heats up as the war with the Dominion hits its climax and the battle with the Queen of Blades leads to the incredibly infested home planet of the Zerg. I played the last battle more than 10 times, as it was very difficult; but it was also so fun I didn’t want the game to end.

The game ends on a note of emotion, though it leaves room for a third game, as there are some plot elements that remain unresolved. That is why it is no surprise there are two expansion packs already planned for the game: Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Blade.

One of the most interesting side paths in the game is where you assume control of Zeratul, a Protoss warrior who reveals to Raynor some of the secrets he has discovered in combat with the Zerg. The mission where the Protoss square off against the Zerg in an all-out last stand is one of the most fun missions I’ve played in any game.

Multiplayer game play will keep you occupied

I expect this game will have longevity because its depth really comes out in multiplayer. I thought I got to be pretty good at the game during the course of the single-player campaign. But human enemies have torn me apart in the multiplayer one-on-one sessions. I have lost many more matches than I have won. But each loss happens in a very different way. There are so many ways to launch surprise attacks in the multiplayer combat that it’s hard to defend against every possible kind of ambush.

One player launched an early Zerg rush attack on my base and I was too slow to realize what was happening. Instead of going after my soldiers and mining units, it went after my communications base itself. I didn’t have enough resources to rebuild the base, and so I had to surrender after just a few minutes of play. That was embarrassing. But if you always defend against that kind of attack, you can become vulnerable to other kinds of attacks. It takes a while, but you have to develop a mindset of simultaneously defending and attacking to do well in multiplayer games.

The new Battle.net online service works great. The matchmaking service can find an opponent quickly and get you into a game within seconds. The more you play, the more you advance up the competition ladder. My only complaint is that it is too easy and painless to surrender in a multiplayer match. As soon as your opponent realizes that you have outsmarted him or her, the surrender comes fairly quickly. That denies the winner the satisfaction of completely crushing the rival’s forces.

Zerg has a lot of different strategies at the start of any game depending on what you want to do. Lets talk for a second about rushing because it is a favorite for the Zerg players. A season Zerg player can do a very effective late rush but we recommend staying away from the very early rushes that we are seeing all over battlenet right now. Diamond level players will not fall to an early rush and in fact, in most cases it will leave you in a worse position after the failed rush then your opponent.

We would recommend a late rush though and the typical build order would be something like this:

1.Once you hit 10 drones build an overlord and then pump out 3 more drones when the overlord finishes.

2.Build a spawning pool after the 3 drones and then make 1 extractor and throw 3 drones on it. Continue to build drones until the pool finishes then make a queen.

3.At this point you should have around 15 drones so we would build 3 or 4 more drones. As soon as you get 100 gas start the speed upgrade in the spawning pool.

4.All you need right now to is to make zerglings and overlords when you need to. Make sure you always have "spawn larva" on the hatchery.

5.When the speed upgrade finishes take all your zerglings and head for your opponent's expansion, take out the workers and then head straight into his main base and also take out as many workers as you can. We would ignore their army and simply run right by them to the workers. By doing this you cripple his economy and your second attack will end the game because he will focus on getting his workers back while you can focus on building up your army to end the game.

This is a much more effective strategy then the early rush with only 6 or 8 zerglings.

You may not be a huge fan of rushing like that, in which case you would build a mixture or drones and zerglings/roaches until you hit 30 drones instead of only building zerglings after the first 18 or so drones. Then focus on hydralisks or what ever is needed to counter your opponent. But always remember to expand pretty early because out expanding our opponent is the only way we stay ahead of Terran and Protoss in the end game.
